Acne Blackhead Treatment – What Will Work And What Won’t

Written by PAC on October 4, 2008 – 7:32 am -

One of the worst aspects of acne for many people is blackheads, and finding an effective solution or blackhead treatment is difficult to say the least. There are so many products on the market that ‘claim’ to get rid of your blackheads, that knowing where to start your search for a blackhead treatment that really works can be very frustrating.

You can get blackheads or comedones as they’re known to the medical profession, just about anywhere you can get acne, and the temptation to squeeze them out is as strong as your urge to squeeze any of your acne spots. The same advice holds true for blackheads as it does for most things in life, and that is, try to resist temptation!

What Blackhead Treatments Work And What Don’t?

Blackhead extractors are small tools that look like large sewing needles with a hole in one end; the idea is to place the hole over the blackhead and use pressure to persuade the blackhead to pop out – Do they work? On a few occasions yes, but for the majority of time they will just damage and irritate your skin. If you do decide to buy one, make sure you buy a good quality tool (even the good quality tools are not expensive), as most of the tools for sale today have been poorly made out in the far east and are useless.

If you are tempted to buy one of the vacuum devices on the market that will ’suck out’ your blackheads…..DON’T - they are a total waste of money and will not work.

I wish I could give you the name of a tool, a cream or a gel that will magically treat your blackheads, but I can’t - one doesn’t exist. I know you will probably try the things I’ve said don’t work, that’s understandable, we’re human and when we get desperate for a solution to a problem, we are prepared to try anything. Once you have tried them and you are ready, read on for the only practical advice I can give you.

You probably already have the cream you need to treat blackheads in your medicines cabinet already. Any acne medication with Benzoyl Peroxide in it will do (proactive acne cream is one of them), if you don’t have any, it’s not too expensive - you can get it from a pharmacy and just plain old Benzoyl Peroxide will do for treating blackheads.

Cleanse your skin as normal, and massage a small quantity of Benzoyl Peroxide in to your blackheads. Do this twice a day and you will see your blackheads start to go over time; I can’t give you a better time frame than that because we’re all different and we respond to treatments differently.

It’s not rocket science I know, but it is the best blackhead treatment we have available to us at the moment. You can try all the rest, but when they fail, try to remember this advice.

I’m also starting to hear some really good things about aloe vera vitamins, I don’t have enough information to write a whole post on this yet, but I will write more on this as and when I have the information.

How Proactive Acne Cream Works

Written by PAC on May 20, 2008 – 12:42 pm -

The Proactive Acne Cream range is a 3 step program that is designed to both treat, and prevent further outbreaks of acne. It’s important to realize that to get the best results from this treatment, you will need to treat your acne continuously – it will help clear your skin, but you need to keep using it every day to prevent the acne returning. If you can discipline yourself to use it every day, even when your skin is clear, you will undoubtedly give yourself the best chance you could possibly have of staying acne-free.

The need to treat continuously applies to all acne medications, not just Proactive Acne Solution, and most folks don’t manage to maintain their treatment long-term, they have a tendency to lapse when their acne clears up, and then start again when their acne reappears.

The active ingredients in Proactive Acne Cream are Glycolic acid and Benzoyl Peroxide at the strength of 2.5% - the strength is important because it can range from 2.5%, 5%, and 10% - the higher percentages tend to cause much more irritation and dryness of the skin, and are not thought to be significantly more effective than the 2.5%.

Benzoyl Peroxide is a highly effective acne medication which is used widely by dermatologists all over the world. It works as a peeling agent which increases the turnover (renewal) of the skin and cleanses the pores. This reduces the number of bacteria present at the affected areas, and it also has an antibacterial effect that helps reduce further infection.

Glycolic acid works on the top layer of skin where it helps to weaken the properties of the lipids (fats) that bind the dead skin cells together – this has the effect of helping to unblock the pores.

The Proactive Acne Solution system is designed to prevent further spots and pimples developing, whilst at the same time treating your current acne breakout.

Step 1 of the treatment regimen, the Renewing Cleanser, is a unique oil-free formula containing tiny beads to smooth and gently exfoliate the dead skin. The Benzoyl Peroxide penetrates pores and attacks the bacteria.

Step 2 is the Revitalizing Toner which does four things; it restores the balance of the skins natural acids, refines and purifies the pores, removes excess oil from the skin, and finally it stimulates the growth of healthy tissue.

Step 3 is the Repairing Lotion is an oil free lotion that contains Benzoyl Peroxide to help repair the skin and prevent further breakouts.

What I particularly like about the proactive system is that it covers all the elements of the 3 Steps To Acne Free Skin in one very convenient package. If you have any specific questions please don’t hesitate to contact The Guide to Proactive Acne Cream.
