Celebrities Using Proactive Acne Cream - Is It All Hype?
There is no doubt that if you can get celebrity endorsement for your product nowadays, it will only benefit your bottom line. It seems we will buy almost anything if a famous person tells us that they use a product and they like what the product does.
The folks at Proactiv are no different, they know that we will listen to their line-up of beautiful, successful people who are happy to say that Proactiv is the best thing they have ever used to treat their acne, and it has transformed their lives forever. But how much of this is hype and how much should we believe?
At present, Proactive have nine celebrities on their website who tell a story about how proactive acne cream has benefited their acne. Let’s take a quick look at some of these stories and see if we can spot a theme:
1. Jessica Simpson - uses proactive acne cream
Jessica Simpson has been using the proactive acne solution for around 6 years. She started using proactive solution because she has always had breakouts and after becoming famous she says her fans were sometimes shocked when they met her in real life and saw that her skin wasn’t as ‘perfect’ as it appeared to be from re-touched magazine photographs.
Stress made her breakouts worse and on the recommendation of one of her dancers she started using Proactiv and has been using it daily ever since.
2. Vanessa Williams - uses proactive acne cream
The gorgeous Vanessa Williams started using Proactive in her thirties - it wasn’t available when she started with acne in her teens, after finding it for her teenage daughter. Like Jessica, Vanessa says she has been using the treatment daily for the past 6 years and it has made her skin smooth & clear, and boosted her confidence greatly.
Vanessa now recommends the treatment to her brother and babysitter amongst others.
3. Melissa Claire Egan - uses proactive acne cream
Actress Melissa Claire Egan was first given Proactiv by her mom, that was 7 years ago, and her daily use has given her clean, clear skin.
As a college student, Melissa Claire hated any pictures that were taken of her and says that they ruined the memories of the awesome times she had at college. After landing the part on ‘All My Children’, she tried many treatments without any success.
4. Ryan Sheckler
Ryan is a skateboard champ and constantly in the public eye - he’s a very determined individual. Getting acne made him self-conscious as it does many others, and for a guy who spends a lot of time over his appearance it was a real body-blow. Ryan started using Proactive because many of his friends were using it too.
To him it’s a big deal keeping his skin clear, and using Proactive regularly has allowed him to keep his skin clear and given him back his confidence.
The other celebrities featured on the Proactiv website are:
Jennifer Love Hewitt
Serena Williams
Chrishell Stause
Jennifer Berry
Kevin Kasper
I won’t bore you with all their stories, you can read all on The Proactiv website if you want, but can you see a common theme running through the 4 stories I have repeated?
That’s right, they all use their treatment on a daily basis. Is it all hype? Probably not because if you have read my other articles on this site, you will know that this is the hardest part of using Proactive acne cream or any other acne medication for that matter - if you follow the instructions and use your medication all the time you WILL get results.

Proactive Acne Cream Free Trial
Most medication, including Proactive acne cream, bought or prescribed in the Western world is wasted. I say that not because it is dispensed for the wrong conditions, but because we, the patients, either don’t take the medication at all or we only part-complete the course and end up throwing the rest away.
Now I probably don’t need to tell you that medicines are expensive - Proactive Acne treatment for example is as much as $60 a shot, so…..
…Why would we end up wasting more drugs than we use?
There are a number of reasons that a patient would take the time and spend the money to go and see his/her doctor and then not take their medicine as prescribed, but we it’s not so important given what we are discussing today. This is a very complicated area and is much investigated by researchers - the main reason seems to be tied up in the doctor/patient relationship.
What is more interesting for us to look at today is why we never seem to finish a course of medication, and there seems to be a number of reasons for this. To start with, we tend to visit our doctors when we are suffering. Sometimes we know something is wrong, but in general we only make an appointment to see a doctor when the ailment or condition discomforts us in some way - a good example of this is high blood pressure, it’s an asymptomatic condition which requires daily medication, but we have a bad tendency to forget to take our pills simply because we don’t feel ill.
In these circumstances we will treat our condition until the discomfort goes away and then stop, even if we haven’t finished all the medication we’ve been given. The same is true for acne. I’ve mentioned in a number of articles that you need to treat your acne every day if you want to (i) Control your acne (ii) Manage your acne long-term and prevent it coming back.
The other main reason patients give for not finishing their acne treatment is that the acne treatment they have chosen or been prescribed just isn’t working. This can cause some concern for health care professionals if enough time hasn’t been given for the treatment to work, but if the patient has used their acne cream for 4 - 6 weeks with little response then it is probably time for a change.
As I’ve said in previous articles, Proactive Acne Solution will not treat everyone successfully, no medication will. If you’ve just spent $40 - $60 on an acne treatment and it isn’t working you are rightly going to feel a little hacked off.
The guys at Proactive Solutions have given this issue a lot thought and have introduced a money-back guarantee if you decide that their proactive acne treatment isn’t for you. If you’ve tried their creams for 60 days and you are in any way unhappy with the outcome, all you need do is send back the bottle (even if they’re empty) with your original receipt and ask for a full refund - In effect a free trial, so what have you got to lose?

The Cost Of Proactive Acne Cream
Is Proactive Acne Cream Expensive?
That’s a question I get asked regularly, and the answer to that question is yes - if the treatment doesn’t work for you, however if it does, it might just be excellent value for money.
I want to say straight off that Proactive Acne Cream is not the cheapest acne medication on the market, but you are probably going to think that it represents good value for money if it does what you are looking for. There are two vitally important factors to consider when choosing an acne treatment, they are:
1. What is the right medication for you? - There’s only one way to find this out, and that’s to experiment. You will need to pick a treatment to start with, usually after taking advice from a fellow sufferer, a pharmacist, or physician, and then give that treatment enough time to do what it’s meant to do. After 4 to 6 weeks you can make a decision on your progress and either carry on or switch acne treatments.
2. Does the acne treatment you’ve chosen represent good value for money? - Don’t assume that the most expensive treatment will be the best, or that the cheapest wont work for you. There’s no logic as to why one treatment works well for some and not for others. The ideal treatment is one that gives you the best results for the least amount of money.
There are 4 options for you to choose from in the Proactive Acne Solution range. I will start with the least expensive and easiest regimen to follow (all these are Proactiv Clear Skin Club prices):
1. The Basic 3-Step Clear Skin system - $39.95. Consists of Renewing Cleanser, Revitalizing Toner, and Reparing Lotion.
2. The 4-Piece Oil Control system - $49.95. This consists of the 3 elements of the basic system, plus an oil absorbing formula for if you have particular greasy skin.
3. The 4-Piece Moisture system - $49.95. Again this consists of the 3-Step basic system, plus a light daily moisturizer for if you have especially dry skin. Moisturizing is always a good thing to do as part of your treatment, a number of medications dry the skin as part of their mode of action.
4. 5-Piece Deluxe system - $59.95. The 3-Part Basic system plus the Oil Control and the Moisturizer.
The quantities of each package is meant to last for 60 days, however some say it’s less than that, others say longer (although I suspect these patients are not using the treatment as regularly as they should).
If we take 60 days as a guide, the Basic 3-Step Package works out at about 66 cents per day, and the 5-Piece Deluxe System is just under $1 per day. If it works, you will probably be happy to pay that much, if it doesn’t, don’t worry too much as they offer a money-back guarantee - But I’ll write more about that soon.
You can buy similar treatments with similar active ingredients from your pharmacist, and they will most likely cost you a little less. Some people however, find that with Proactive Acne Cream coming in a very user friendly package, it helps them maintain their regimen better, which will ultimately mean you control your acne much better.

How Proactive Acne Cream Works
The Proactive Acne Cream range is a 3 step program that is designed to both treat, and prevent further outbreaks of acne. It’s important to realize that to get the best results from this treatment, you will need to treat your acne continuously – it will help clear your skin, but you need to keep using it every day to prevent the acne returning. If you can discipline yourself to use it every day, even when your skin is clear, you will undoubtedly give yourself the best chance you could possibly have of staying acne-free.
The need to treat continuously applies to all acne medications, not just Proactive Acne Solution, and most folks don’t manage to maintain their treatment long-term, they have a tendency to lapse when their acne clears up, and then start again when their acne reappears.
The active ingredients in Proactive Acne Cream are Glycolic acid and Benzoyl Peroxide at the strength of 2.5% - the strength is important because it can range from 2.5%, 5%, and 10% - the higher percentages tend to cause much more irritation and dryness of the skin, and are not thought to be significantly more effective than the 2.5%.
Benzoyl Peroxide is a highly effective acne medication which is used widely by dermatologists all over the world. It works as a peeling agent which increases the turnover (renewal) of the skin and cleanses the pores. This reduces the number of bacteria present at the affected areas, and it also has an antibacterial effect that helps reduce further infection.
Glycolic acid works on the top layer of skin where it helps to weaken the properties of the lipids (fats) that bind the dead skin cells together – this has the effect of helping to unblock the pores.
The Proactive Acne Solution system is designed to prevent further spots and pimples developing, whilst at the same time treating your current acne breakout.
Step 1 of the treatment regimen, the Renewing Cleanser, is a unique oil-free formula containing tiny beads to smooth and gently exfoliate the dead skin. The Benzoyl Peroxide penetrates pores and attacks the bacteria.
Step 2 is the Revitalizing Toner which does four things; it restores the balance of the skins natural acids, refines and purifies the pores, removes excess oil from the skin, and finally it stimulates the growth of healthy tissue.
Step 3 is the Repairing Lotion is an oil free lotion that contains Benzoyl Peroxide to help repair the skin and prevent further breakouts.
What I particularly like about the proactive system is that it covers all the elements of the 3 Steps To Acne Free Skin in one very convenient package. If you have any specific questions please don’t hesitate to contact The Guide to Proactive Acne Cream.

Proactive Acne Cream - Is It Right For You?
If you read in a newspaper or magazine, or anywhere on the Internet for that matter, about an acne treatment that is effective for 100% of the patients who use it, I would advise you to take that article or advertisement with large a grain of salt.
Why? For the simple reason that we are all individuals…… we all look different, we all think different, and surprise surprise we all react differently to different medication.
That’s not to say there are not medicines available that will work for most of the people who take them, but as far as I’m aware, there isn’t one single clinical trial that shows a medicine as having a 100% success rate - and I’m talking about all conditions or diseases, not just acne. In a lot of cases, a 65% success rate is thought of as being very good - if you know any doctors, ask them, and I’m sure they will confirm that statistic.
Proactive Acne Cream will not work for everyone who tries it. However, it does have an excellent success rate of around 85% for mild to moderate acne, but if you want to become part of that statistic, the most important thing you will have to do is stick to the program. In a previous article 3 Steps To Acne Free Skin I refer to the fact that you have to be persistent when treating your acne - if you are persistent, you will see results - If you don’t think you will be, I would suggest you save your money.
How long does Proactive Acne Treatment take to start working?
On average, you should start to see results within about 4 weeks, but if we refer back to what we discussed above, about us all being different, you won’t be surprised to hear that some people get results much sooner, while others need a little longer.
————————————————–
I think at this point, it’s important to mention what your realistic expectations should be.
Whatever acne medication you decide to use, you are not going to wake up suddenly one morning and find that your acne has disappeared - unfortunately acne doesn’t behave like that. The journey towards clear skin is a gradual one, so you cannot expect instant results. The fact is, that you see yourself in the mirror most days, so you might not notice the small subtle changes your acne has undergone, in fact, you might find that it’s others who will notice your skin clearing much more than you will, especially if you haven’t bumped into them for a few days.
————————————————–
Once you start to see the improvements for yourself, the motivation to carry on treatment won’t be an issue. Many people take three months or more before they consider their skin to be ‘normal’ - and when you reach this stage you will need to continue with the treatment to ensure your acne stays away. Continuing to treat healthy skin can become a real chore, because “hey why would I carry on treating something that isn’t there any more?” - from experience I’ve met many people who forget or can’t be bothered to medicate every day after their skin is clear, and the majority of these manage to stay acne-free by medicating maybe just 3 or 4 times a week.

3 Steps To Acne Free Skin
The advice you are about to read is suitable for, and will benefit the vast majority of acne suffers, irrespective of which medication you choose, whether that’s Proactive Acne Cream, or any other acne medication.
There are just 3 simple steps you need to follow, that will almost guarantee that you can clear your acne (I say almost, because no single treatment will work for everyone). However, sticking to these steps will give you the best opportunity you will ever have to achieve acne free skin.
Let me repeat that - There Are Just 3 Simple Steps.
It’s not rocket science, but you will need to be persistent. Virtually all of the failures I’ve seen are because the person has lost faith in the steps after the first week or so - Most folks will need 4 to 8 weeks to get the maximum benefit, others will need a little longer, but many will start to notice a difference after the second week. OK, here’s what you need to do:
- Cleanse
- Medicate
- Moisturize
Step 1 - How to cleanse your face properly.
- Splash warm water onto all the areas that are affected by acne - face, neck, chest, etc…
- If you are using an acne cleansing wash, make some lather in your hands and wash the affected areas gently using only your hands - don’t spend too long over this, you don’t want to irritate your skin.
- Rinse off with warm water and very gently pat your face dry - do not rub your face dry, as this can also irritate your skin.
- Let your skin dry completely before you medicate (normally takes about 5 minutes).
Step 2 - How To Medicate Properly.
- Make sure your hands are clean and dry.
- Squeeze the required amount of medication (Always follow the manufacturer’s advice here) onto one finger, and use another finger on your other hand to very gently spread it on to the affected areas.
- Without applying any pressure to the face, work the medication until it is virtually all absorbed.
- Golden Rule - always be very gentle, you want to minimize skin irritation at all times.
Step 3 - How To Moisturize Properly.
- Make sure your hands are clean and dry.
- Squirt the moisturizer onto the ends of your fingertips and pat it gently onto your face.
- As you did with the medication, very gently work the moisturizer into the skin.
- The same golden rule applies when you are moisturizing, avoid irritating the skin by rubbing.
Were you expecting more than that?…… I’m sorry, but it doesn’t get any more complicated!
Unfortunately the 3 steps will not clear your acne overnight, but then again, neither will any other treatment regimen. If you can follow these 3 steps twice a day every day, I’m certain that you will start to notice significant results sooner rather than later. I can guarantee that at some stage over the next few weeks you will feel like giving up, but remember what I said about being persistent - it will be well worth the effort.

A Proactive Approach To The Causes Of Acne
This article will help you if you are looking for facts or just extra information on:
- How many people suffer from acne.
- What acne is
- What causes acne
- A home Proactive Acne Solution
How Common Is Acne?
Here’s a scary thought……..Almost every person reading this article, and almost everyone they have ever known or met will, at some stage, have suffered from acne, because acne is considered to be one of the most prevalent skin diseases in the United States - it affects almost 85% of teenagers and young adults between the ages of 17 and 24. It is thought that up to 60 million Americans will have active acne and almost 20 million of those will be left with some degree of scarring.
There are some very sobering statistics there, but the one that jumps right out of the page at me is that 40% of that 60 million will never seek any help for their acne. That’s 24 million Americans who don’t go to see a physician, don’t seek advice from a pharmacist and never use over the counter acne medications!
What is acne?
Acne is a very common skin condition that will typically causes one or more of the following:
- Blackheads
- Spots (Usually red or yellow and may be pus filled)
- greasy skin
- whiteheads
- scars
Acne generally starts around the same time as puberty and will vary in severity from a few spots on the face, chest, back, neck and arms, which most teenagers will have experienced at some stage, to a more serious condition that can lead to embarrassment, depression and leave the patient with skin scarring.
Acne is not a discriminatory disease; it affects people of any skin color equally, although those with darker pigmented skin may be impacted less because the outward signs of acne can be less obvious.
Most patients acne will resolve by the time they are in their late teens or early twenties, but for some the condition can persist well in to adulthood.
What causes acne?
In truth, the honest answer is that science doesn’t know the root cause of acne. We do however understand the mechanism of the various skin eruptions, which is why we are able to develop treatments like Proactive Acne Cream and treat the condition as successfully as we can do today.
Below the surface of our skin we have literally millions of what are called sebaceous glands - glands that produce and secrete an oily substance called sebum on to hair. Sebum is essential to allow hair to grow in the areas of the body where it’s needed.
Doctors have discovered that the sebaceous glands of acne sufferers are particularly sensitive to the body’s normal blood levels of testosterone (the primary male sex hormone - although found naturally in both males and females). Testosterone causes the sebaceous glands to over produce sebum, and it’s this excess sebum that blocks the pores which results in the classic signs of acne such as blackheads, whiteheads and spots.
Home treatments
Not everyone suffering from acne will need to see a doctor or dermatologist about their condition, not everyone can afford to see either a doctor or dermatologist about their acne, and we’ve already read that up to 40% will choose not to seek any help whatsoever.
If you are one of these people, there are still many options open to you. In our next article at Proactive Acne Cream Guide, we will be looking at the 3 essential steps you need to take to get your acne under control - and there are just 3 steps!
